Christmas has come and gone but the snow continues to fall around Anfield. Slotmas is nowhere near over as Liverpool host Manchester United at 16:30.

Ruben Amorim hasn’t set the world alight since his appointment following the sacking of Erik Ten Haag. The Portuguese manager has arguably had the worst start of any manager post Sir Alex Ferguson. Only managing 4 wins out of his first 10 games, that’s including Europa League wins against FK Bodø/Glimt and Viktoria Plzen. Ruben’s 3-4-3 formation with a focus on high pressing and possession is something he isn’t willing to part-way with, despite inheriting a squad that doesn’t quite fit the system.

Manchester United currently sit 14th in the table on 22 points with 6 wins, 4 draws and 9 loses. The Red Devils looked to have turned a corner after 2-1 win away at Manchester City, however losses to Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle United all followed. They can’t come into this one in much worse form.
Last season Erik Ten Haag dug his heels in at Anfield for a 0-0 draw. Liverpool were dominant but ultimately wasteful and Rasmus Højlund squandered his chance to put the visitors 0-1 up. However, Arne Slot’s side ran riot at Old Trafford against this current crop of Manchester United players, 0-3 earlier in the season. Given current form some of Ruben Amorim’s side will be fearing the worst after being involved in the 7-0 embarrassment at Anfield two seasons ago, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 8-0 this time around.
Mohammed Salah’s record vs Manchester United is like no other with 15 goals and 6 assists in 14 appearances. The Egyptian King always shows up when our fierce rivals are opposite, with 17 goals and 13 assists already in the Premier League this season he’s inevitable, surely he scores in this one.

Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte are both available for selection after serving their suspensions against Newcastle Untied. Ruben Amorim provided no update on the availability of Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount or Luke Shaw. He reported an illness for Marcus Rashford, however an ongoing public media battle between himself and the club in regard to Rashford’s discipline and conduct is currently playing out, the forward is rumoured too leave Manchester this January. Creative spark Alejandro Garnacho has been picking up minutes since a discipline issue that seems to have been resolved, the Argentine was rumoured to be the source of an information leak.

Joe Gomez will be unavailable after picking up a hamstring injury against West Ham, he’s due to be sidelined for a number of weeks. The good news for Arne Slot is Ibou Konate and Conor Bradley are both nearing a return and could be available for selection.
