Newcastle had all the chances in the first half but only lead 1-0 through a great strike from Alexander Isak.

However Arne Slot would drum a second half reaction out his side. Mohamed Salah, a man on a mission, would assist Curtis Jones to level the scoreline.

Anthony Gordon would not give in and fired the Magpies back into the lead.

The introduction of Trent Alexander-Arnold from the bench would change Liverpools attacking outlet. He’d combined with Mohamed Salah for our Egyptian King to score twice firing the Reds into a 3-2 lead.

However, Fabian Schar would gamble at the far post from a free kick to level the scoreline and share the points; 3-3.

Newcastle United FC: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Tonali, Guimarares, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.

Liverpool FC: Kelleher; Quansah, Gomez, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, MacAllister, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Gakpo.

Liverpool head to St James’ Park 9 points clear at the top of the table. After winning against the defending Premier League champions and UEFA Champions League champions last week, the media narrative that the title is Liverpools to lose has begun. However supporters know Man City and Arsenal have both dropped points in the North East this season already and this will be no walk in the park for Arne Slot.

First Half

Liverpool struggled to beat an organised Newcastle press in the opening 10 minutes leading to multiple chances in the final third for the hosts, however little would materialise for them.

Alexis MacAllister would be denied from the edge of the penalty area, he’d then strike the outside of the upright just moments later. Liverpool looked to have settled.

However, Alexander Isak would turn up the intensity. A through pass would fine the Swede before cutting back to create space and firing into the top right corner leaving Caoimhin Kelleher with no chance; 1-0.

Newcastle’s goal didn’t seem to be the wake up call Liverpool needed. Anthony Gordon was unlucky to not make it 2-0 when he intercepted a back pass from Joe Gomez. Clean in one-on-one only to be denied by Caoimhin Kelleher.

Liverpool, lucky to make to half time at only 1-0, looked toothless and Arne Slot needed a second half reaction.

Second Half

Liverpool’s accustom second half reaction followed. Just 6 minutes after the break Mohamed Salah laid the ball off for Curtis Jones to strike home beating Nick Pope with power at his near post levelling the scoreline; 1-1.

Then arguably they should have took the lead. A looping cross from Mohamed Salah found Cody Gakpo at the far post. The dutchman opted to head the ball back across goal for Darwin Nunez who was inches away from tapping the ball home.

Anthony Gordon would respond for the Magpies. Alexander Isak would find the winger with a through pass into the penalty area, Gordon cut inside onto his right foot and finished leaving Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez both on their backsides; 2-1.

Anthony Gordon puts Newcastle ahead.

Another twist was due. Off the bench Trent Alexander-Arnold would make an instant impact concluding a neat move with a pass to Mohamed Salah who noncelantly finished across goal leaving Nick Pope a statue; 2-2.

Mohamed Salah a man on a mission to single-handedly drag Liverpool to another comeback victory. Ever threatening, Trent Alexander-Arnold found him again inside the penalty area. Propping the ball up to spin and finish on the half-volley, a goal that oozed world class quality; 2-3.

But Newcastle refused to admit defeat. A seemingly poor free kick delivery by Bruno Guimarares would be left by Caoimhe Kelleher, however Fabian Schar gambled at the far post and would slide home to tap the ball into an empty net from a tight angle. Levelling the scoreline and sharing the spoils; 3-3.
