So, with the Virgil Van Dijk and Naby Deco Keïta transfer sagas in full swing, I thought it would be a good time to take a look at some alternative transfer targets Liverpool Football Club should take a look at if we miss out on our main men. This list includes alternative targets to three of the players Liverpool have been linked with since the end of the 2016/17 season.

#1 Naby Keïta – Leon Goretzka

Schalke 04’s 22-year-old playmaker Leon Goretzka kicks us off on this list, with the Bochum-born playmaker registering 7 goals from 39 appearances in all competitions last term. Regarded as one of the brightest talents of German football, Goretzka, who’s style is not too dissimilar to that of Emre Can, would provide solid protection for Van Dijk Lovren and Matip whilst providing excellent attacking support. His vision and passing range is second to none, and, whilst a less attacking option than Keïta, could prove to be a Reds stalwart for years to come.

#2 Virgil Van Dijk – José María Giménez jmg

Where do I start with this boy? José María Giménez’s incredible rise to become one of the best young Centre Backs in the world is definitely some story. Hailing from Toledo, Uruguay, the 22-year-old certainly has the world at his feet. Scoring 1 in 38 games for Atletico Madrid last season. José María Giménez recently admitted his dream of playing in the Premier League, after rumours of Manchester United and Liverpool’s interest.

#3 Andrew Robertson – Nathaniel Clynehd-nathaniel-clyne_ft1i5nxda91l1i1s1xmq2k8ue

Okay, he is already a Liverpool player, but hear me out. Not only does Clyne have a strong left foot, he has already appeared at left back for us a few times last season. Deploying Clyne in a left back position would allow 18-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold to become our first choice right back.hd-trent-alexander-arnold_uywti40o0mq714hm7m8mm0dk9

Having already proved himself an able full back. Alexander-Arnold would provide us with something that has illuded Clyne since he joined from Southampton in 2015. That being: Assists. Receiving praise from Steven Gerrard in his book: My Story, Alexander-Arnold has the potential to surpass our 1st choice right back Nathaniel Clyne by quite some way in the future.
