Roberto Firmino Barbosa de Oliveira is a Brazil international footballer who has been a Liverpool player since 4th July 2015. Affectionately known to supporters as “Bobby” he has become an important player for the club scoring some important goals in big games during his time at the club and here is some interesting facts and stats on one of our samba stars.
First Club
Born in Maceió, Alagoas, Firmino joined Figueirense’s youth setup in 2008, aged 17, after starting out at CRB where he was used as a defensive midfielder.
Age on debut
Firmino made his professional debut on 24th October 2009 at the age of 18 coming on as a half-time substitute in a 1–2 home loss against Ponte Preta, for the Série B championship. Firmino scored 8 goals in 38 appearances for Figueirense who he left in January 2011 to join Bundesliga side 1899 Hoffenheim where he went on to score 38 goals in 140 appearances.
International career
On 23rd October 2014, Firmino received his first call up to Brazil national football team for the friendly matches against Turkey and Austria. He was given his debut in a 4–0 win over Turkey on 12th November, replacing fellow debutant Luiz Adriano for the last 17 minutes. Firmino scored his first goal six days later in a 2–1 away win against Austria.
In May 2015 he was included in Brazils squad for the Copa America in Chile where he scored in a 2-1 win over Venezuela. In his international career Firmino has scored 5 goals in 15 appearances (May 2017).
Liverpool career
On 23rd June 2015, while he was competing for Brazil at the Copa America, Hoffenheim and Firmino agreed terms for him to move to Liverpool for a deal worth £29 million subject to a work permit. Liverpool confirmed the signing the following day, subject to him passing a medical. The deal was finalised on 4th July 2015.
Firmino made his Liverpool debut in a pre-season friendly away to Swindon Town on 2nd August 2015 and his league debut a week later, replacing Jordon Ibe for the final 12 minutes of a 1–0 win at Stoke City. On 21st November 2015 Firmino scored his first goal for Liverpool in a 4–1 away victory over Manchester City.
Roberto Firmino’s Liverpool career has continued to grow since manager Jürgen Klopp has played him in the false number 9 position. As of the end of the 2016/17 season Roberto Firmino had scored 23 Goals in 90 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions since he joined in July 2015.
