Steven Gerrard, a goalscorer in two European finals and most definitely played a massive part in football’s most famous comeback in Istanbul, 25th May 2005.
Like every Liverpool fan, Gerrard obviously wants Jurgen’s mighty reds to win their Champions League play-off especially as they’re seeded too. Despite this, he also has his very own reasons to see Liverpool in the Champions League alongside with the other 32 teams in the group-stages of the 17/18 season.
As it was announced earlier in the season, Gerrard will take over as the Liverpool’s Under 18’s manager role and this will guarantee them a spot in the Champions League too.
The last time Liverpool were in the Champions League was in 2014/15 seasons when they were in a group with Ludogorets, Real Madrid and Basel.
When they were last in the ‘youth’ version of the Champions League, the likes of Ojo, Ejaria, Wilson, Kent, Brannagan have all made their first-team debuts. Wilson scored a last minute winner vs the Blanco’s as they beat them 3-2 and ended up runners up who unfortunately got knocked out by Benfica which was a tough tie but a great experience for them. They lost 2-1 in a close game.
Perfect opportunity for our Steven Gerrard as he knows the value of this European experience and how much it would mean to this young side.
A great experience Stevie Gerrard and one he can’t wait for and the same goes for us, the first team and the under 18’s!
