On the 11th of January, Southampton host Liverpool for the semifinal of the EFL cup. Heading in, both teams have slipped up with Southampton losing 3 lut of their 4 matches. Thier most recent visit was the FA cup tie between Championship side Norwich. Liverpool have also had a few rough games. Drawing against Sunderland was a major downfall in the Reds title fight. The Reds most recent visit at St Mary’s ended in a 1-1 Draw, and Liverpool battering Southampton 6-1. Going into the game, Liverpool will be without the likes of: Phillipe Coutinho, Joel Matip, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and probably likely Daniel Sturridge. As this is a major match for Jürgen Klopp, this suggests that he will be fielding a strong team with the likes of Mignolet back into the team and a few more key players.
Squad Prediction:
Mignolet
Clyne Lovren Klavan Moreno
Can
Lallana Wijnaldum
Firmino Origi Sturridge
Key Players in the Tram:
Simon Mignolet:
Since replacing Loris Karius, Mignolet has had a positive start. He has kept 3 clean sheets in 5 games, and considering how he played last year, he has improved massively and I can’t see Karius coming into the team soon.
Adam Lallana:
A vital player this season for the Reds. He’s the engine for our team. He goes forward in a disastrous manner and also defends pretty well. The key factor of why he is playing well is pretty much because he has changed position. The pressing he also does high up the pitch will be really vital against the Saints.
Match Predictions…
Southampton 1- 1 Liverpool
Goal Socreers:
Firmino
Van Dijk
Why have I chosen Van Dijk?
Considering that we are not good at defending set pieces. I am going to go for Van Dijk. He’s brilliant at heading and I could see him grabbing a goal against us.
