Liverpool return from the international break with a trip up the M6 to face Burnley at Turf Moor. Arne Slot’s side have enjoyed a perfect start to the Premier League season, and the Dutchman will be aiming to extend that 100% record against Scott Parker’s Clarets.

Arne Slot on Deadline Day and Burnley

In his pre-match press conference Arne spoke about Liverpool’s busy deadline day;

“A lot of things happened on the last day. What pleased me most was us getting the deal for Alex over the line. Good for the club, good for the fans, good for the players, good for me.”

On Marc Guehi, whose deal collapsed on deadline day;

“It would be ridiculous if I denied that we were close to signing him. These things happen in football. In the last moments things can change. It’s a pity, not only for us, but for the player as well. Let’s see what the future brings for him and for us.”

Arne Slot reflecting on results against newly promoted sides last season;

“We know that every game is difficult and I only have to look back at last season to understand that. We had problems with Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton.”

Liverpool won all 3 away games against newly promoted sides last season, however it wasn’t without a fight.

Burnley’s Start Under Parker and Record against the Reds

Burnley opened their campaign with a 2-0 home win over Sunderland, courtesy of second-half goals from Josh Cullen and Jaidon Anthony. However, away form has been a concern after they lost 3-0 at Spurs on the opening day and were beaten 3-2 at Manchester United in stoppage time.

Scott Parker has unhappy memories of facing Liverpool, with his Bournemouth side thrashed 9-0 in 2022 a defeat he described as “the toughest and most painful day” of his managerial career.

Liverpool have won eight of their nine away Premier League matches at Turf Moor (one loss), including the last six in a row. They have also kept a clean sheet in each of their last four away games against the Clarets. The Reds have won seven away top-flight matches in a row against three teams previously.

Alexander Isak Debut

Arne Slot has possibly ruled out a debut start for Isak saying;

“With us playing so many games there’s little training time. That is going to be a challenge but we have not signed him for the next two weeks we have signed him for six years and the fans have to keep this in mind.”

Isak, who missed most of pre-season while pushing for his Anfield move, trained alone at Real Sociedad before joining Liverpool. He managed just 20 minutes for Sweden against Kosovo during the break, raising further questions about his fitness.

Liverpool as Defending Champions

The last time Burnley hosted Liverpool as defending Premier League champions was in May 2021. Amid a defensive crisis, young pairing Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips started at centre-back with one even getting on the scoresheet that day.

Team News

Liverpool are set to be near full strength at Turf Moor, with Curtis Jones expected to be the only absentee after picking up an injury in his last appearance. Jeremie Frimpong has returned to full training following a hamstring problem that ruled him out of wins over Newcastle and Arsenal.

For Burnley, Zeki Amdouni, Jordan Beyer and Connor Roberts remain sidelined, while Hjalmar Ekdal, who suffered a knock on international duty, has been passed fit and could feature if required.
