Alles les rouges! Liverpool head to the Parc des Princes in the French capital to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday evening.

First Time Back in the French Capital

For travelling supporters it’ll be the first trip back to Paris since the distressing UEFA Champions League Final in 2022. Organisational errors, poor communication and heavy handed policing saw Liverpool fans experience some of the worst treatment of supporters at a final, on what should’ve been a magical day.

Hopefully the travelling Kop will have little to worry about this time around. The Parc des Princess is located on the west side of Paris, far away from Saint-Denis and any of the areas used for the final. Having travelled here in 2018 many reds reported fair treatment and an enjoyable occasion, Anything Liverpool wish all travelling supporters a safe trip.

Improved Performances Without Mbappé

Luis Enrique has rebuilt the foundations of Paris Saint-Germain after the big departures of Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi and Neymar over recent summers. Les Parisiens became over reliant on Kylian Mbappé last season and his departure has freed up Luis Enrique tactically. PSG now press man for man and by statistics are one of the hardest working sides in Europe off the ball. Their XG has also improved from 2.02 last season to 2.59 this season, begging the question was Kylian Mbappé holding them back all along?

Domestically PSG are the only undefeated team left in Europes top 5 leagues and have scored 40 goals in their last 10 games in all competitions. Their last defeat came away from home against Bayern Munich 1-0 in November.

Memories at Parc des Princes

After topping the UEFA Champions League group phase Liverpool are still favourites to adavance. Dismissing domestic champions in Real Madrid and Bayer 04 Leverkusen so far, Liverpool will look to claim another scalp.

Liverpool failed to beat PSG here in 2018 on the road to Madrid losing 3-2. However, legacy reds will have fond memories of the Parc des Princes. It was there Liverpool defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in the European Cup Final in 1981 to win their 3rd European Cup.

Team News

Cody Gakpo has made the trip, but a knock sustained in training means he will be assessed to see if he can play at Parc des Princes. Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez, and Tyler Morton are unavailable for Liverpool because of injuries.

PSG manager Luis Enrique confirmed that his team is fully fit ahead of the match. Warren Zaire-Emery may return to the starting XI, having come on as a substitute in their last two matches following recovery from an ankle injury.
