Moyes vs Slot

David Moyes has added a new lease of life to what was a struggling Everton side. The toffees have won their last 3 Premier League games in a row scoring 8 goals and currently sit 9 points clear of the relegation zone.

However, Moyes’s record in this fixture won’t fill blues with hope. He’s managed 25 derby games as Everton manager and only managed to get the better of Liverpool on 4 occasions. Throughout his whole career he’s only beat the reds 6 times in 42 attempts.

In the Liverpool dugout Arne Slot will be hopeful to win his one and only game at Goodison Park before the switch to Bramley-Moore next season. Slot is looking to become the first Liverpool manager to beat, Manchester City, Manchester United and Everton all at the first time of asking. Kenny Dalglish is the only reds manager to win their first Merseyside derby when its come away from home, guiding the team to a 3-2 victory in September 1985.

Bragging Rights

To add extra excitement to the match, the bragging rights of Goodison Park are on the line. Both teams have 41 derby victories at the iconic stadium, so a win for the reds would see them not only surpass Everton in derby wins but also keep their record of most goals scored in Goodison derbies.

Last season Everton won their first derby at Goodison since 2010 against a Liverpool side low on confidence after losing to Crystal Palace and being knocked out of the UEFA Europa League a few days prior.

However, this Liverpool side is a new beast hungry to avenge shortcomings. Mohamed Salah, seemingly inevitable at the moment, scored twice in a 1-4 win here in December of 2021.

Team News

The home side, meanwhile, are optimistic about having Vitalii Mykolenko available, with Tim Iroegbunam also on his way back and ready to play. New signing Charly Alcaraz made his debut for the Blues on Saturday and is likely to be involved.

Everton have six senior players sidelined: Armando Broja, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Youssef Chermiti, Seamus Coleman, Dwight McNeil, and Nathan Patterson.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has recently resumed training and will be eager to start if fully fit.

Joe Gomez has been ruled out after his return against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday was cut short in the first half. Tyler Morton is the only other absentee for Liverpool, as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury.
