First Half

Darwin Nunez crafted the first chance of the half. The Uruguayan recovered a loose ball on the half way line with superb trickery to flick it over his own head before dribbling goal bound at pace. Cutting in onto his right foot inside the Brighton penalty box, the curling effort was palmed around the post by Bart Verburggen.

The seagulls were lively in the opening exchanges and found the lead after 14 minutes. Mitoma flashed a ball across the box, knocked on by Danny Welbeck, eventually reaching Ferdi Kadıoğlu who dispatched the chance in off the post for his first premier league goal.

Brightons fast start continued towards the half hour mark. On 27 minutes Yasin Ayari played a long through pass in behind Liverpool that Rutter would run onto. Caoimhin Kelleher made a crucial stop at close range to keep the score just 0-1.

And it didn’t stop there. Mitoma and Welbeck linked up down the left with a series of intricate passes. Mitoma then played a ball into the back post only for Ferdi Kadıoğlu to blaze the volley over the bar.

Welbeck had the final Brighton chance of the half from a dead-ball around 25 yards out. Opting to go around the Liverpool wall, rippling the side netting.

After a lacklustre half for Liverpool things looked to go from bad to worse as Ibou Konate suffered a hand injury during a late corner. Virgil Van Dijk stood on his hand after a coming together in a crowded Brighton penalty area.

Second Half

As a result Ibou Konate was substituted for Joe Gomez at the break, making his 3rd appearance in the league this season.

Arne Slot warranted a reaction from his side. That’s just what he got on 53 minutes , Cody Gakpo whipped a ball into the box headed goal bound by Alexis MacAllister forcing Bart Verburggen to make a reaction save at his near post.

Just moments later Alexander-Arnold appeared out on the left hand side lifting a deep ball into the Brighton area. Darwin Nunez and Van Dijk both targets, however Van Dijk miscued, a chance the reds really should of taken.

Pressure continued, Mohamed Salah would go through 1 on 1. The Egyptian attempted to chip it other Bart Verburggen who denied the chance and smothered the ball.

Liverpool’s second half reaction was rewarded on 69 minutes. Out on the left Cody Gakpo cut back to float a right footed cross that missed everyone and rustled in at the far post to level the scoreline.

Just 3 minutes later Mohamed Salah would stand up Pervis Estupiñán carrying the ball inside onto his left foot for a trademark Salah goal. With power and curl into the top right corner leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Liverpools comeback was complete.

Liverpools defence smothered any late Brighton chances. A 2-1 win and another Anfield comeback. A performance full of grit and character that sees Liverpool return to top spot in the Premier League.
