Liverpool travel to The Amex stadium for an 19:30 kick off against Brighton in defence of their Carabao Cup title, arguably one of the harder ties of the round. After a 2-2 draw against Arsenal on the weekend the reds look to get back to winning ways tonight.

Brighton who have become a Premier League main stay of late have started strong in the league. With 4 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss, sitting 6th in table. A point in a 2-2 draw at the Emirates and a 3-2 win at home to Tottenham being their most notable results so far. In the previous round Brighton hosted league one Crawley Town in a rampant 4-0 win.

Liverpool had a troubled history at Brighton towards the end of the Klopp era, failing to beat the Albion on the last 3 visits. Liverpool’s last win at the Amex coming in 2022 when Luis Diaz netted after beating Robert Sanchez to a 50/50 ball, followed by Mohamed Salah converting from the spot for a 0-2 win.

Tonight’s tie comes round a-bit quick for the hosts in terms of injuries with several players out. Matt O’Riley and Joao Pedro are both reported to be out with ankle injuries. Solly MarchAdam Webster and former red James Milner are all expected to be missing. Fabian Hurzeler has hinted at a return to the squad for Yankuba Minteh and Jack Hinshelwood. Seagulls captain Lewis Dunk sustained a calf injury in the warm-up against Wolves this weekend, he will be a big miss if unfit. Georginio Rutter is cup tied after featuring for Leeds earlier in the competition.

Arne Slot continues with similar selection issues to the weekend with Diogo Jota, Alison Becker, Harvey Elliott and Fereico Chiesa likely to remain out. However Slot has hinted at a return for Conor Bradley who picked up a knock in the previous international break whilst captaining Northern Ireland.

After the 9 changes made in the previous round against West Ham it’s hard to predict what line-up Slot is likely to choose. Changes are a given, however with less options available its likely some of the big guns will start tonight.
