Liverpool travel to the capital this afternoon to take on Arsenal in the 243rd meeting between the two sides.

Arsenal have had a turbulent but successful start to the season with 5 wins, 2 draws and one loss.

All dropped points have had red cards involved for the gunners. A 2-2 draw with Manchester City, Leonardo Trossard walking just before half time. A 1-1 at home to Brighton with Declan Rice having an early bath. And finally that red card last weekend against Bournemouth, Saliba sent off in a 2-0 defeat. It’s no doubt that Arteta has discipline problems within the Arsenal camp. However there hasn’t been a sending off in this fixture in the last 5 meetings.

Arteta will have some selection issues. Martin Odegaard remains out with a long term ankle problem, alongside Kieran Tiernay and Takehiro Tomiyasu. New signing Ricardo Calafiori is likely to remain out after sustaining an injury midweek. Jurien Timber and star-man Bukayo Saka are doubts but could be within contention and are with the squad. William Saliba is suspended.

Arne Slot will also have some big names missing with Diogo Jota out after an injury sustained against Chelsea. Alison Becker, Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott and Fereico Chiesa are also likely to still be missing for the reds.

Liverpool will look to build on the foundations they’ve set so far with Arne Slot becoming the first manager to win 11/12 games across all competitions in English top-division
history. It’s going to be a tough one.
