On Monday night Ibou Konate’s France were 2-1 winners against Belgium in the UEFA Nations League. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Les Blues saw out the 2-1 lead. France now sit second in the table 1 point behind Italy but 5 points clear of Belgium in 3rd.
Dominik Szoboszlai netted twice for Hungary in a 2-0 win away in Bosnia, goals coming either side of half-time. The first a left footed strike from inside the box across the keeper that nestled in at the far post. The second from the penalty spot.
Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch were both involved in a Dutch defeat to Germany 1-0. Both played for over an hour but were brought off after a rather quiet evening for the pair.
Moving onto last night’s action, Diogo Jota featured from the start for Portugal at Hampden Park and managed a shot on goal before being brought off just past the hour mark. Andrew Robertson captained the hosts for the full 90 and was unlucky not to assist early on. The captain floated a cross into the Portuguese box for unmarked Scott McTominay who wasted the chance. Ben Doak featured for 67 minutes before being subbed off. Scotland held on after a late flurry of chances for Portugal. The game played out to a 0-0 draw.
Conor Bradley captained Norther Ireland for the second time, the first time at Windsor Park. Northern Ireland ran rampant putting 5 past visitors Bulgaria. Bradley kept a clean sheet and featured for the full 90 in the 5-0 win.
Now over to South America for COMNEBOL Qualifier action. Luis Díaz and amigos hosted Chile in a 4-0 victory. Díaz scored shortly after half time when a high press from Colombia caught out Chilian defender Benjamín Kuscevic. Former toffee James Rodríguez squared the ball for Díaz to finish.
Uruguay played out a 0-0 draw against Ecuador. Darwin Nunez featured from the start and was unlucky not to score after striking the post in the first half.
Alexis Mac Allister started for Argentina who came out 6-0 victors against Bolivia. Rather controversially Macca travelled to Buenos Aries to meet the squad carrying a small injury and trained alone with minimal ball work for the first half of the international break. However, after returning to full training before the Bolivia fixture Macca deemed himself fit enough to start and manager Lionel Scaloni must have agreed. Reds fans will be happy to know our Argentine only featured for 66 minutes before being substituted.
