Liverpool 4-1 (Ogbene 12’, Van Dijk 56’, Gakpo 58’, Díaz 71’, Elliott 90’)

Harvey Elliot celebrating after making it 4-1

Liverpool came into the fixture with a depleted squad, and were forced to included 5 teenagers on the bench. Starts were also handed to Elliott, Gravenberch, Bradley and Quansah, meaning it was an incredibly young Reds team.

The game started off in expected fashion, with the makeshift Liverpool team struggling to pick up any sort of rhythm. The visitors took advantage of this and on the 12th minute took the lead through Chiedozie Ogbene. Liverpool looked to hit back, but could not produce the right final ball in the Luton half. This changed after half-time, as two headers in quick succession by Van Dijk and Gakpo fired Liverpool in to the lead. Within two minutes, Liverpool had the tie in their hands. The Reds did not sit back however, and after missing multiple chances, Luis Díaz added a third in the 71st minute. The goal was celebrated ecstatically by his father in the stands, The latter stages of the game saw opportunities for Bobby Clark and James McConnell to gain valuable minutes, and also handed Jayden Danns the chance to make his first team debut. To top off a fine evening, 20-year-old Harvey Elliott fired home a fourth in the 90th minute.

What could have been a very tricky tie for Liverpool, ended up as a very positive night for Klopp and his men. Excellent result and bring on Sunday!🔴
