With news breaking this morning that Liverpool are readying a second bid of approximately £45 million for midfielder Romeo Lavia, fans will be eager to learn a little bit about their newest potential recruit. The 19 year old Belgian was a standout performer for Southampton last season and has been subject to interest from a host of England’s biggest clubs, including the Reds.
Fabrizio Romano reported this morning that Liverpool were ready to submit their next bid, edging closer to Southampton’s reported valuation of £50 million. Reliable journalist Paul Joyce has also released an article suggesting that Liverpool will pursue Lavia as their priority midfield target. It is fair to say that the Reds will be optimistic that a deal can be agreed.
So what does Lavia bring?
Operating primarily as a number 6, the Belgian brings tenacity and work rate to the team he plays in. As seen below, Lavia’s interceptions per 90 minutes is very strong, as is his ability to retain the ball. His stats in dribble % are good, suggesting that he can take the ball under pressure and move it on, something which is key to playing as a 6 for Liverpool. At 19, Lavia has much potential to grow and will be seen as a long term fix for Liverpool’s minimal options in the defensive midfield role.
Lavia is a good passer of the ball too, both his long passing and short passing are strong assets. His ability to get the ball off the centre backs and start attacks would be of use to the Reds. Along with Stefan Bajcetic, the 19 year old could form a partnership that may last for many years at Anfield.

News of the bid for Lavia was broken this morning, suggesting that the deal could move quickly. As of now, this is the latest news that AnythingLiverpool is reporting.
